Church description

Christ Church St. Peter’s Parish is an active Episcopal church located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Easton. An important presence in the community since its founding in 1692, the church has experienced more than a tripling in its membership since our current Rector came to us in 1999 and for the last three years has had an average weekly Sunday attendance (ASA) of about 330.

The church offers a full and vibrant worship schedule in three Sunday morning services as well as a Saturday evening service which began in January 2012. Our liturgical styles range from traditional to contemporary. We also offer number of Christian education programs, and a wide range of pastoral care and outreach ministries to the church membership, the local community, and well beyond our region. Our goal is to excite and nurture our parishioners in their lives as faithful disciples, and even perhaps as apostles, of Jesus Christ. Without a doubt we understand our community as an evangelistic mission, recognizing that as the Parish’s faith, hope, and love grows, it will naturally reach out to bring others into the knowledge and love of God and Christ.

The parish leadership is reviewing its organizational structure in the paradigm of the generational and demographic changes of our culture, the church community, the local area and the world. We intend to break out of the current membership plateau and grow this congregation, by developing and embracing new strategies of active evangelism, and positioning the parish community to be a more functional and relevant proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to take our place as a blessing and hope of God to this community.

We are in the process of reconfiguring our Staff to be more effective in our fundamental calling in Christ. The Assistant for Teen and Young Adult Ministries is a new position that will combine a number of pastoral, liturgical and educational roles into a re-envisioned purpose of a contemporary Family Ministry. In addition to the general responsibilities, this new position will seek a more specific focus on church growth and development as a consequence of evangelism directed toward teens and young adults. We expect it to integrate into the overall staff strategy that will be including both a Children’s Ministry and a clergy Assistant to the Rector, who will have a focus on family ministries as well.
