Job at Baptist Children's Home

Houseparenting at Baptist Children's Home

Job Description

Ministry Summary

Baptist Children’s Home (BCH) is seeking committed Christian couples to join our caring staff as House Parents. House Parents must agree with our statement of faith. We encourage you to read the following summary and contact us if you are interested in finding our more about this important ministry. We seek to accomplish all of this by using God’s model for the home.

Prospective House Parents should be able to meet the demands of a large family household. The couple should also have a heart for young people and be willing to invest themselves in the children's lives. You will have an impact on children that may last for generations.

BCH provides residential care to children up to age 17. Children in our care have been determined to be receptive to the structure and nurturing of a family setting. Our primary goal is to provide a loving Christian family atmosphere. We strive to purposefully fulfill the Great Commandment (Matt 22:35-40) and the Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20) through our ministry.

House Parents/Relief House Parents provide daily supervision and care for up to 8 children. All House Parents participate in ongoing training in childcare practices and state requirements. We strive to maintain a team ministry by having Administrators, Counselors, and House Parents working together. Teamwork is crucial for the overall good of the child and for BCH to fulfill our ministry goals. Although roles differ, House Parents and Relief House Parents are equally essential to our ministry.
General responsibilities for House Parents include organizing/structuring family life for hygiene, chores, meals, recreation, and other normal family functions. They are also responsible for the overall health and welfare of the children. Other responsibilities include helping children with homework, transporting children to extra-curricular practices and events, and reporting on the progress of each child. House Parents are encouraged to schedule projects, outings, experiences, etc. in order to provide a well-rounded family experience, bonding, and just plain fun!

Relief House Parents provide care for the children during the main house parents’ regularly scheduled time off. Relief House Parents assume additional responsibilities on campus such as light maintenance, transporting residents to appointments, and other similar responsibilities that contribute the fulfilling our stated goals.

Our U.S. homes are located in Elkhart, Indiana, and the St. Louis, Michigan area. The BCH Michigan campus includes two homes on the property with one satellite home in a nearby community. The facility includes a gymnasium, grassy play areas, and a portion of the property is wooded. We also care for around 800 more children through our foreign partners in India, Liberia, Myanmar, and Nepal

Baptist Children’s Home offers salary, with great benefits including housing, food, health and dental insurance, life insurance, long and short term disability, scheduled paid time off, and paid vacation. Staff housing during relief time is provided and consists of apartments or houses with two bedrooms, one bathroom, living area, kitchen, and laundry area. No college degrees are required in our Michigan homes, but a degree in child care/development, social work, or education is a plus. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required in our Indiana home.

Baptist Children's Home

Disclaimer: We are not a church.

Baptist Children's Home was started by a group of churches who desired to care for orphaned and disadvantaged young people. The majority of our ministry is to children who for some reason need a placement outside of their family of origin. We are dedicated to providing a biblical model of marriage and family and to making disciples. Our group homes are staffed by married couples who reside in the home with the young people. We are the only state licensed child caring facility in Michigan that continues to run a family model program. Currently we are caring for children in the USA, India, Liberia, Myanmar, and Nepal.
