Director of Christian Education
The Director of Christian Education is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive program of Christian education for kids entering kindergarten through adult ages. This person should be involved in the adult bible study classes as well as any other small group studies approved by church session. It is important that this individual inspires and excites both children and adults of United Presbyterian Church (UPC) to learn and study the faith by communicating and demonstrating a personal passion for Jesus Christ. This person will report directly to the pastor and will be the liaison to the church session for the Christian education team.
• Develop, support, and equip the Christian education team, children’s ministry volunteers, and adult sunday school teachers to minister to children and adults. This will include all levels of Christian education including: youth group, adult & small group studies, vacation bible school, church media, etc. • Recruit, train, resource, and oversee all children’s ministry volunteers. Help develop training opportunities for all Christian education members including: adult classes, small group studies, etc. • Develop the appropriate budgets to ensure the physical and financial resources for developing and expanding Christian educational ministries • Lead the church to evaluate and select the most appropriate curriculum for each of the educational programs • Develop new and creative ministries designed to aid in the faith development of children, adults, and integrate Christian education into the greater life of the church • Coordinate seasonal children’s ministry events (Christmas pageant, Easter activities, fall or spring trips) • Ensure that the Christian education rooms and bulletin boards are up to date with appropriate information • Minister to children and their families to build relationships with parents, children and members of the congregation • Be part of the church leadership team. Communicate regularly with the congregation about the Christian education ministry. This would include writing an annual report and articles for the church bulletin/newsletter • Join in a network of other professional educators to continue to enhance their personal and professional development in Christian education • Performs other duties as assigned by the Pastor
This is a part-time dedicated commitment staff position with a semi-flexible schedule. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the Christian education ministry. This individual is expected to take an active role in the life of UPC.
Salary is commensurate with educational background and experience. Continuing education funds and expense allowance would be included. Five days of vacation is available after one year of service along with four personal days.
Must possess a bachelor degree, preferably in education or a closely related field, and should have experience teaching in a Christian setting. Appropriate experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree. This individual must have an in-depth knowledge of the Bible along with advanced study and training in Christian education.
