The vision of New Hope is to plant disciples of Jesus in every neighborhood in Manhattan, every town in Kansas, every state in our country, and every country in our world.
New Hope’s motto is to pursue relationships that change the world.
communicates that we are to be actively involved in what God is doing in the lives of people. Being a follower of Christ requires responsible actions on our part; we cannot take a passive role in this process. We are to diligently and persistently seek a relationship with God, with each other, and with the people that God has placed in our sphere of influence.
demonstrates our commitment to what lasts forever - God and people. Jesus said that his teachings could be summed up in two commands—love God and love others as yourself. Each person we encounter has inherent value as they bear the image of God and yet are in need of redemption as they are broken by the fall. Therefore, we bring curiosity about what the Spirit of God is doing in each relationship we pursue. (Matt. 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-31)
demonstrates that we believe God changes hearts. We do not possess the ability in ourselves to change anyone. But God initiates a process of change with those who trust in His Son, Jesus. (John 1:12; 14:15; Rom. 6:1-4) Through this change we are made alive to God and are enabled to grow up in relationship with Him and others. The Word of God and prayer are vital elements to bring about change. (Eph. 2:4-5; Rom. 8:29; 1 Pet. 2:2)
indicates the direction that God continues to move us. (John 3:16) God loves people and desires that they turn and trust in Jesus Christ and experience forgiveness and life forever with Him. (1 Tim. 2:4) Though Jesus’ teaching makes it clear that not everyone will receive Him, His message is to be communicated and opportunity given to all peoples of the world. (Matt. 22:14; 24:14; 28:19; Acts 1:8)
We value the primacy of the gospel. The gospel not only saves us from the penalty of sin but also frees us from the power of sin as we apply it to our lives. (Titus 2:11-14)
We value groups that are small enough to know and be known yet large enough that a range of spiritual gifts are present and where the ‘one another commands’ can be lived out. (Gal. 5:13-14; Heb. 10:24-25; Rom. 12:3-10)
Disciplemaking is a healthy expectation for all believers. (Matt. 28:18-20)
The primary function of leaders is to equip, encourage and enable the saints for the work of ministry so that the body of Christ may be built up in love. (Eph. 4:11-16)
Team leadership is vital in all contexts of ministry for the health of leaders and those they seek to lead. (Eph. 4:11; 1 Tim. 3)
God created us as emotional, physical, and relational beings and we value engaging people’s minds, hearts, and emotions as essential in helping them to ground their faith in truth and mature as followers of Christ. (Rom. 12:2)
New Hope is an independent, self-governing, self-supporting local church that is affiliated with the Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists. There is no human authority structure beyond this local church that dictates what we must believe or do. A team of elders lead the church by sharing the responsibility for overseeing our church’s teaching, life and ministry.
