Full Time Youth Director

Motivate and support youth and their families in becoming disciples of Christ while equipping their families to do the same in their home.
In all interactions, serve as a Christian role model and establish authentic personal relationships with youth and their families in order to provide spiritual guidance and lifestyle mentoring.
Assist youth and their families in recognizing, developing, and utilizing their God-given gifts and talents for the betterment of their community. Facilitate the creation and implementation of programs that develop youth into Christian leaders.
Job Tasks, Responsibilities, and Authority:
Work with the Youth Program Team (YPT) to plan, organize, and implement all activities related to youth ministry.
Work with GROW team, and YPT to develop curriculum, and delivery methods for youth worship, Sunday Morning Grow Hour, and Bible studies. Write and develop curriculum that aligns with particular sermon series and church wide focuses. Train volunteers on how to use curriculum, how best to mentor our youth, and how to guide students in their relationship with Christ.
Provide effective and timely communication to and coordination with all essential groups (youth, parents, staff, congregation, church leadership). Organize all youth events including the calendaring and related schedules. Communicate/coordinate schedules with the staff and the church.
The Youth Director will recruit and train volunteers for the youth ministries. He/She will be responsible for Safe Sanctuary training and background checks for all individuals who volunteer within the children/youth ministry.
Be available and accessible to provide support to the youth through regular contact.
Be available to offer support and counseling to parents as needed. Offer small groups and classes for parents raising youth.
Provide input/feedback to the YPT to foster engagement and involvement. Work with the YPT to establish objectives, goals, and plans for the ministry to Youth and Families.
Build relationships with the local schools and create ways for CUMC to be present and helpful.
Facilitate service to others and outreach beyond Chapelwood, i.e. 5th Sunday Serve, UM ARMY, Faith in Action, etc.
Develop, plan, schedule, and coordinate additional youth oriented programs, .e.g. camping trips, concerts, retreats, lock-ins, special events, etc.
Foster an environment that encourages connections beyond Chapelwood to youth.
The Youth Director will supervise the youth intern and manage volunteers.
Work with the YPT to establish and manage the youth program budget. Organize fundraising as needed.
Maintain a safe and clean space for youth ministry activities. Report concerns to Trustees or Maintenance.
Work with Chapelwood Director of Music to involve the ]youth in a variety of musical areas in the church.
Work with the worship team to involve youth in all areas of worship, greeting/ushering and liturgy.
Communicate the needs and volunteer opportunities available in the youth ministry to the entire congregation. Create ways for everyone to be involved in the youth ministry in some way, e.g. prayer, time, meals and or financial support.
Essential Characteristics, Skills, and Expectations:
The Youth Director should:
• Display good character qualities such maturity, respect, honesty, responsibility and authenticity • Be mature in his/her faith with a passion for the Lord • Be outgoing, energetic with an upbeat and positive attitude • Be caring, loving, warm, and compassionate toward children, youth, and adults • Relate well to children, youth, and families in age appropriate ways • Exhibit excellent leadership and organizational skills • Be an effective oral and written communicator • Not be satisfied with the status quo and should always be looking to learn and grow • Be an active participant of Chapelwood UMC and support it with their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness • Be knowledgeable in Methodist theology and be consistent with that doctrine in his/her teaching, behavior, and worship • Have the essential computer skills of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Apps for Non-Profits • Be skilled in preparing multi-media presentations • Have a working knowledge of Media Shout and planning/scheduling tools • Be competent in current trends, cultures, and technologies, i.e. text messaging, pod casts, blogging, Wikis, Asana, website site development, Volunteer Spot, Media Shout, etc.
Personal Development: Accountable for developing and implementing formal personal continuing education plans under the guidance of the YPT, Sr. Pastor and the SPRC. This will be both functional and Christian in nature.
Youth Program Goals: Accountable for helping lead the YPT through the development and achievement of short, medium, and long-term goals for the Chapelwood youth ministries. This includes establishing appropriate milestones and success measurements, e.g. introduction to Youth Group, Confirmation, graduation preparedness, etc.
The incumbent shall own the progress measurements of youth ministry and shall report progress vs. the goals to Chapelwood’s leadership and the congregation.
This is a full time salaried position. The Youth Director is expected to keep at least a two hour/day regular office time slot at Chapelwood where he/she can be reached and keep a calendar that demonstrates work hours. The incumbent is expected to spend a significant portion of his/her time participating in hands-on activities with the youth. This is both school and non-school oriented (including, but is not limited to: sporting events, music events, school lunch periods, See You at the Pole, UM ARMY, Faith in Action, Chick-fil-A Prayer Breakfasts, Jr/Sr High Bible studies, and other special events). Through these activities, the Youth Director should make a personal connection with each youth participating in Chapelwood ministries at least once per semester. The Youth Director should also make contact with the families of youth and find appropriate ways to minister to them and engage them outside of the church walls.
The Youth Director reports to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). SPRC will solicit, document, and evaluate performance feedback from the YPT, youth, and parents of youth as input to the Youth Director’s performance evaluation.
The Youth Director should meet with the Senior Pastor for one hour each week for general supervision, mentoring, and spiritual mentoring. He/She should also meet with the other staff on a regular basis to discuss church wide activities, concerns or opportunities.
The Youth Director works as a participating member of the YPT, which is responsible for the scope, content, and function of the two programs
Educational and Experience Requirements
College degree required. Prior experience in youth, family, or educational ministry (either as paid or volunteer) in a Wesleyan/Methodist setting required. Candidates are expected to either be certified in Youth Ministry/Christian Education through the Texas Annual Conference or working towards certification. A graduate degree from an institution recognized by the United Methodist Church in Youth Ministry/Christian Education (or similar) will be considered equivalent to certification. A valid Texas Driver’s license is required, and an expectation that within one year the employee will have a valid commercial driver’s license so as to dive the church owned bus.
Good visual acuity. Ability to speak and hear. Ability to lift and carry in excess of 40 lbs., which may require pushing, pulling, and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, grasp. Manual dexterity to operate equipment. Ability to sit for an extended period of time.

Chapelwood United Methodist Church located in Lake Jackson, TX is looking for a full time Director of Youth Ministries. Chapelwood is an 800 member congregation with an average Sunday morning worship service attendance of 250. Worship at Chapelwood features a choir, organ and 3 rotating bands. Both of our Sunday morning worship services are in the style of blended worship. Our preachers focus on connecting the Bible to daily life.
Our youth program is defined as 7th thru 12th grades. The youth ministry currently includes both Sunday and Wednesday night activities as well as retreats, small groups, mission trips and district/conference activities. The youth ministry and the Youth Director are support by a group of adults and parents called the Youth Planning Team. The Youth Director will be supervised by the Senior Pastor.
