Job Description

Summary: The Director of Children and Youth Ministries shall work with the Session to plan for, develop and supervise the Christian Education ministries of the church as regards children and youth in accordance with the policies determined by the Christian Education Committee. The Director of Children and Youth Ministries directly reports to the Head of Staff and is the staff liaison to the Christian Education Committee.

Primary Purpose:
The Director of Children and Youth Ministries shall foster the development of a personal, spiritual, and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ among children and youth through a comprehensive approach (including worship, education, mission, service and community outreach) which includes the weekly Sunday School program, Sunday evening Youth group and Vacation Bible School.

• Work collaboratively to create vibrant and inviting Children and Youth programs that attract new children and youth and retain existing children and youth. • Partner with the Pastor and the church’s Christian Education Committee to determine goals for the ministries. • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist with program implementation and growth. • Oversee, help plan, and regularly evaluate all children and youth programs. Identifies, selects and evaluates curricula with collaboration of Christian Education Committee. • Work with the Christian Education Committee in implementing educational programs, developing an annual calendar of all activities from August to August. • Create and maintain ministry communication to ensure awareness and visibility among the families and the church as a whole about the ongoing Children and Youth Ministries including the church newsletter, bulletin announcements, website, and social media outlets. • Plan and oversee the annual budget of Children and Youth Ministries. • Plan and lead all Youth Group activities. • Plan and lead at least one activity for children k4-5th grade per quarter. • Work with the Pastor in organizing and coordinating the Confirmation Class. • Attend weekly staff meetings, appropriate committees, and work with other staff members as appropriate. • Lead and engage in activities and programs with intentionality to build relationships, maintain visibility and make connections in the total church life by regularly attending worship and other church functions. • Ensures compliance with the Safe Place Policy for children and youth • Teaches Sunday school as needed • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor.

Required Education and Experience
• Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and His church. • Is a communing member of the PC(USA)and/or understanding of and commitment to Reformed theology and Presbyterian Polity. • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Christian Education or other church related degree OR a current student working towards a church related degree. • Experienced success in a previous ministry setting • Inspire enthusiasm and connect it well with youth and children. • Organized and self-starter. • Team oriented; work well with staff and volunteers. • Maintain excellent communication skills.

Position: Full Time Salaried Staff
40 hours per week, off on Saturday (except during planned events) and one other weekday, except for emergencies and special occasions. Regular attendance and participation in Sunday worship expected.
