Oconee Presbyterian began as a New Church Development in 1999. Rev. Pam Driesell and missionary members from area Presbyterian churches began worshiping in homes, a storefront, a clubhouse, and a school. In 2001 with 100+ members, we purchased 15 acres and worshipped al fresco while building a multi-use 15K sq. ft. building dedicated in 2004. The church grew under Rev. Pam’s leadership through 2010, when she was called away to serve as pastor of a large congregation in Atlanta. In 2012, we welcomed Rev. Joel Tolbert and his family, who then responded to another call in January 2020. In April 2020 we were blessed to welcome Interim Pastor Steven Barnes who continues to lead us. Our session has extended the closure of the main OPC building beyond Labor Day weekend and up through the Thanksgiving holiday (Thursday, November 26th), with the acknowledgement that we will continue to monitor the pandemic situation, hoping and praying for improvement, and re-evaluate as we move forward through the fall. Although the building is closed the campus and outdoor facilities remain open. Until the building is reopened, youth group meetings will be held at the OPC Pavilion or virtually.
