Director of Youth Outreach
OVERVIEW The Director of Youth Outreach will guide and direct the process of building a community-wide program that seeks to serve the spiritual development of youth in the Hopewell community, starting with the youth of Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
HOURS This is 25hr/week position for the first 6 months at which point more hours may be added.
COMPENSATION $28,000 - $30,000 annually
REPORTING Pastor and the Personnel Committee of Hopewell Presbyterian for the first 6 months.
DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Hopewell Presbyterian Church is committed to helping the community grow in their relationship with God, themselves, and one another. The Director of Youth Outreach is a new position, created to support the ministry of Hopewell Presbyterian but with the primary goal of establishing a new program that cares for the spiritual development of youth in the Hopewell community. As the program is designed and established, the position of Director of Youth Outreach will evolve. The following results and responsibilities are set for a short-term period of 6-months at which point they may evolve in conversation with the HPC pastor.
SHORT-TERM RESULTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Initial estimated allocation of time & energy:
- 10hrs - H PC Programming (Results 1, 2, 3, 4)
- 10hrs - Relationship Building (Results 1, 4, 5, 6)
- 5hrs - Outreach Program Design (Results 6, 7, 8)
Result #1 Know the name of every current child, youth, and parent on the rolls of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, making individual contact at least quarterly and coordinating with staff to meet other spiritual/pastoral needs of children, youth, and their families.
Result #2 Work with the Hopewell Presbyterian Church staff and Nurture & Growth Committee (and possibly intern) to design and lead Sunday worship and educational programming that fosters the spiritual development of children and youth in an intergenerational setting.
Result #3 Recruit and train children and youth programming leaders, volunteers, and/or staff.
Result #4 Design & lead two “special” community-wide youth events/programs per semester.
Result #5 Build relationships with youth in the wider Hopewell community by making connections with youth-led organizations (Hopewell Gives Back, Hopewell Helpers, etc) and local schools.
Result #6 Build relationships with future children and youth outreach partners: Institute for Youth Ministry (Princeton Theological Seminary), churches of the Hopewell Borough, the Hopewell Council of Churches, Creative Connections Play School, Hopewell Municipal Alliance, etc.
Result #7 Identify outreach program design team (made up of youth and other stakeholders in the community) and identify/develop strategy for the design process. This process should be rooted in researched-based innovation, contextual design, and foster growing community relationships. Take first steps toward implementation.
Result #8 At the 6 month mark, develop mid-term and long-term results & responsibilities in conjunction with HPC Pastor, HPC Personnel Committee, program design team, and other invested outreach partners.
CHARACTERISTICS & PREFERENCES Evident love for God, experience in children/youth spiritual development, theologically trained (masters degree preferred), program/project design experience, relational, commitment to fostering equity and justice in all its forms, willingness to engage the creative process (experimentation, failure, reformation), self-starter, team player, flexible, excellent organizational skills.
