Full Time Student Pastor
Primary Purpose: The Student Pastor will have a heart for middle and high school students with a desire to help them take their first/next step toward a stronger relationship with Jesus. He or she will serve the church by aligning the Student Ministry across all current and future campuses with the mission and vision of Connection Point. The Student Pastor will empower parents, staff and volunteers to develop discipleship opportunities that connect students and families to Jesus, each other, and the world.
Essential Responsibilities and Outcomes Relationships - Oversee and champion all ministry to Students (7th-12th Grade) and their parents. - Naturally develop personal relationships with students, parents, and volunteers. - Create an environment where students can build relationships with each other, regardless of school or background. - Meet with the Pastoral Staff on a regular basis to ensure unity and spiritual alignment across all ministries. - Implement a Parent Advisory Team and meet with them consistently for feedback, ideas, and input. - Intentionally build a presence in the community through missional efforts. - Continue to foster reputation of Connection Point as a church that loves our city by welcoming community students and providing a safe, friendly environment.
Recruiting and Supervision - Recruit, train and empower volunteers for leadership in Sunday morning LifeGroups, Midweek programming, Student Camp, WKND, and all special events. - Using a LifeGroup Leader driven approach, continue to recruit and equip LifeGroup Leaders to help students take steps of faith. - Hold weekly volunteer huddles, monthly volunteer trainings, and semi-annual discipleship training (in conjunction with the Discipleship Team). - Develop teams of student leaders and opportunities for students to lead their peers in a ministry context.
Discipleship - Measure success according to steps of faith taken by individual students, moving them from Visitors to Engagers. - Champion “Faith at Home” by encouraging students to look to their parents as Disciplers and by equipping parents (in conjunction with the Discipleship Team) to disciple their teenagers. - Effectively teach theological truths in a practical, tangible, and convicting way. - Provide opportunities for growth to happen: i.e. in-house serving opportunities, community serving opportunities, missions, discipleship weekend, etc.
Programming - Create engaging and dynamic programs in which students want to participate and are excited to talk to their parents about. - Plan programming well in advance to ensure proper communication, excitement, and effective execution. - Lead Student Ministry programming forward in a manner that fits into the Discipleship Strategy of Connection Point Church. - Establish departmental goals and objectives by prioritizing related programs, managing the use of the facilities, planning an appropriate budget and work within that budget, delegating tasks and evaluating progress regularly.
Qualifications - One who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God and a teachable spirit. - One who possesses a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field; Masters level education is a preferred bonus. - One who has a minimum experience (3-5 years preferred) leading a Student Ministry that includes the leading and equipping of volunteers and parents, or a related field. - A desire to take ministry to teenagers to the next level. - A personal spiritual life congruent with biblical mandates for leaders (1 Timothy 3:1-7). - If married and has children, family is expected to be actively involved in the ministries of the church - One who can apply theological truths, as reflected in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, to the everyday life of a teenager - An outgoing and approachable leader. - A heart for teenagers and a desire to help them take their next step toward a stronger relationship with Jesus. • One who likes to have fun!
This leader will make intentional efforts to be present in the lives of teenagers and their families by:
- Attending various events which involve teenagers outside of Connection Point programming. - Being present with a student and/or family in case of an emergency or crisis situation. - Offering counseling for teenagers from a biblical and faith-based perspective.
Physical Demands The typical youth staff member will endure a number of nights each year with minimal sleep, particularly on retreats and trips with students. In addition, there will be seasons when the physical demands of the youth ministry can be exhausting, particularly when preparing for a major event or multiple major events. Assisting with event preparation and clean up can require some heavy lifting as the staff person’s ability allows.
