Hazel Dell Christian Church

Growing. Faithful. Together

Church description

Hazel Dell Christian Church (HDCC) is a 900-member church with more than 1,300 regular attendees in weekly worship. Located in fast-growing Carmel, Indiana, Hazel Dell Christian Church is on a 26-acre property on the southeast corner of Hazel Dell Parkway and East 146th Street. HDCC is just south of the Carmel-Noblesville border in Hamilton County, north of Indianapolis. Mark Wright has been Senior Pastor since 1989.
The city of Carmel is one of the fastest growing cities in Indiana. Located just north of Indianapolis in Hamilton County, Carmel is a dynamic city with award-winning schools, thriving businesses, and family-oriented neighborhoods. Between the 2000 and 2010 census, the population of Carmel more than doubled, from 37,733 in 2000 to 79,191 in 2010. Its growth percentage (110%) was the highest in the state, so Carmel is currently the eighth-largest city in Indiana and its most affluent. It is also recognized as a center for the arts and was awarded #1 best place to live in America by Money magazine (2012).

Hazel Dell Christian Church, formerly called Woodland Springs Christian Church, began in the late 1960s. A group of families planted the church, seeking to emulate the patterns of the earliest church in the New Testament. Due to continued growth—both in attendees and in physical facilities—the church purchased its current 26-acre spot in 1997, first worshiping there in 2000. There are three identical services of contemporary/blended worship every Sunday morning at Hazel Dell: 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. There is also a midweek service that includes age-targeted programming. The church’s annual budget is $1,365,000 of which approximately 8% is the youth ministry’s budget ($108,320). HDCC is also investing in the youth ministry through member giving and fees paid for conferences and trips.
Hazel Dell Students provide multiple opportunities for youth in 7th through 12th grade to be involved. Junior High Sunday School meets during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service and High School Sunday School meets during the 11:00 a.m. service. High School and Junior High large and small groups meet on Sunday nights.

Jimmy Scott has been a full-time student minister since 2000, the Youth Minister at Hazel Dell for 5 years, and serves alongside an administrative assistant and a strong cast of 32 youth coaches.

An average of 120 students attends Hazel Dell Students programming each week. These programs consist of small groups, large groups, and Sunday School. Regular calendar events include: High School Christ In Youth (CIY) Move Conference each summer, the High School fall and winter retreats, Junior High CIY Believe Conference, the Junior High fall retreat, and Junior High CIY Engage mission trip. The High School group also goes on a mission trip each year, alternating between domestic and foreign missions. Major events each year include the High School Turkey Bowl, the youth ministry Battle of the Classes, the Senior Banquet, and the Leadership Retreat.
