Job Description Summary Posting:
In recent years Christ Church has been focusing on revitalization and experiencing growth and health in key areas including the children, youth and family ministries. Recent changes in this ministry area include equipping new volunteers, establishing regular family events, creating a “Faith at Home” center to resource parents, revamping the youth group, and repurposing four spaces for children and youth ministry. We are praying for the next staff person to help us build upon these developments and continue casting vision, equipping parents, and leading/working with volunteers to help form children, youth and families as disciples of Jesus and participate in church life.
The children, youth, and family ministry currently average 40 children and youth who weekly gather in groups on Wednesday nights and classes on Sunday mornings along with special events throughout the year. Working with two ministry teams and volunteers the Children, Youth and Family Ministry Director will bring leadership to, oversee, coordinate, resource and work with the children’s and Jr./High youth groups; Sunday School classes, family events, and resourcing of parents. This ministry will also involve helping recruit and train adult leaders and incorporate themes of outreach, discipleship, fellowship, serving, intergenerational connections, and participation in overall church life in these ministry areas. Racine is one of the largest cities in Wisconsin, located on the shores of Lake Michigan only a short drive (30 min.) from downtown Milwaukee and an hour from downtown Chicago. There are elementary, middle, and high schools near the church building which is located in the newest and growing part of the city in an area surrounded by families. The Pastor (as of July 2013) Rev. George Kafer, has been appointed to help this mid-size church continue to form disciples of Jesus in the 21 century, engage the community more, and reach all ages for Christ with a focus on families and youth.
Christ Church is a congregation that has active participation in and support of efforts to make disciples and transforms the world for Christ. We have 2 worship gatherings on Sunday morning. One style is contemporary with a praise band and the other is traditional with a choir and hymns. Worship services are characterized by inspiring music, the passionate proclamation of the Word, opportunities to encounter God’s presence, and an invitation to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
With a dual focus on personal and social holiness, the people of the congregation are active in many ministries that pursue living out the great commandment and great commission. These ministries include efforts to engage locally, nationally, and internationally in ways that reach out to new people, help improve the community, meet the needs of others, and share the good news of Jesus. The church also offers a number of fellowship opportunities and small groups for fun and spiritual growth. In addition, the church owns and operates a childcare center and a Christian preschool that serves members and residents of the surrounding community. Our desire is for everyone who spends time as part of our faith community to come to know Jesus; deepen their relationship with our Savior, and find others with whom they can experience transformation and put faith into action.
