PURPOSE:

We are a sacramental and worship-oriented church that promotes prayer, praise and Bible centered preaching. At Zion, we are becoming a community of faith, hope and love and are working to foster our spiritual growth and share the hope God has given us.

JOB TITLE: Youth & Family Spiritual Leader - full time.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Zion Lutheran is seeking a committed and passionate individual who wants to develop a youth and young family ministry from scratch. Our youth program needs new vision and excitement. We want you to understand you will be growing this ministry from the ground up. SUPERVISION AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Director of Youth Ministries will work under the staffing committee, the Lead Pastor and the chairperson of the youth committee. The primary directive is to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ, bring excellence to the Youth ministries and be used by God to help facilitate growth of Zion Lutheran Church. A primary goal will be to prepare Youth for a life of discipleship and to assist them in their corporate and individual sense of spiritual development.

COMPENSATION:

This is a full time position. This position’s wage will be established by the staffing committee and church council. Appropriate benefits are indicated in the written Staff Handbook.

MISSION AND PURPOSE:

The Director of Youth Ministries will provide leadership to the Youth ministries of Living Word by working with lay leaders and volunteers.
This position will serve Youth by leading them into a deeper relationship with Christ by offering meaningful, culturally relevant ministries, in ways that 6th through 12th grades can best receive and understand emphasizing the pillars of the church: worship, learning, service, and celebration

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

• Develop, execute and supervise the youth activities • Recruit and train a pool of youth activity adult mentors • Ensure that all activities, classrooms and facilities reflect a professional and Christian environment • Develop and maintain effective communication among youth, parents, committees and senior pastor utilizing e-mail, social networks, Zion website, mail, newsletters, etc. as appropriate • Aid and encourage parents in the Christian training of their youth; include parents in youth activities • Keep the congregation, council, and community informed of Zion youth programs and activities • Develop, implement and monitor methods to measure the success and effectiveness of the Zion youth programs and periodically share the results with church council and the congregation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Attend weekly staff meetings, share youth and family activities and coordinate them with other Zion staff • Review and assist in selecting curriculum and educational tools for the youth • Develop, maintain and communicate a calendar of events and activities for the youth • Together with the Zion treasurer, develop, execute and be accountable for the annual budget for Zion youth activities • Develop and assure the execution of fund raisers for the various youth activities • Assure that all permission and medical forms required for youth participation are obtained and maintained • Assure that youth participants maintain conduct that positively reflects Zion’s values • Be available to council both youth and their family as needed and appropriate • Encourage youth to attend and participate in the Sunday services • Teach and delegate the task of teaching biblical truths in all areas • When appropriate combine Zion youth activities, including mission trips, with sister churches and other Christian organizations in the community • Annually invest in personal continuing education and spiritual growth. Provide oversight and/or supervision to Youth teachers and ministry volunteers with special attention paid to equipping Youth ministry lay leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS AND APTITUDES:

• Be a disciple of Jesus Christ and subscribe to the Lutheran Church doctrine and theology. • Is personally committed to the Bible, Zion’s Constitution and Bylaws, and Zion’s current mission and objectives • Have demonstrated experience in developing, leading and generating enthusiasm for youth programs • Will pass a criminal background check and standard employment drug test • Ability to be a morally positive role model for Zion’s youth, both at Zion and off campus • Proven ability work relatively independently and yet is a team player. • Personable, organized, and have exceptional communication skills in order to affirm the existing volunteer base while also being relatable to students and their families. • Creativity to adapt and utilize a variety of means to engage youth in the 21st century. • Enthusiasm to build excitement about Living in God’s kingdom contagious.

Salary: In the range of $60,000 commensurate with education and experience.

WHO WE ARE:
Zion Lutheran Church is a congregation 114 years old but with a young heart and excited for revival. We are an older congregation with few young families and youth but are not contented with this status quo. We want to grow. Zion sits in the middle of Kerrville, TX a small city of 22,000 in the heart of the Texas hill country. We have many services and enjoy recreational opportunities. Surrounding Kerrville are many youth related camps – both religious and secular.
