Thomas Schaffer's résuméLast updated
I have a desire to see students enter into a saving relationship with Jesus!
High School and College Director, Legacy Church; La Mesa, California — July 2015 - Current
I prepared and delivered messages for the high school ministry, planned, coordinated, and executed various outreach events targeted at the unchurched in our area. I planned and coordinated a mission trip to Mexico with Amor Ministries. I also recruited and trained volunteers for different aspects of the high school ministry. For the college ministry I led and facilitated discussion during our weekly meetings. I also planned events for outreach and for community. For both ministries I was available for counseling in times of crisis as well as creating and maintaining a departmental budget.
Youth Ministry Intern, Piedmont Community Church; Piedmont, California — August 2014 - June 2015
I worked closely with the lead youth pastor in both the middle school and high school ministries. While I played primarily a support role for the high school ministry, I (with my wife Ashleigh) headed up all aspects of the middle school ministry. These included planning and delivering messages, monthly events, and outreach both to groups and one on one. We also assisted in the planning and execution of an international mission trip with Amor Ministries to Tijuana, Mexico.
Barista, Starbucks Inc; La Mesa, California — May 2012 - Current
Through my role as shift supervisor I have been able to hone my skills of delegation, decision making under pressure, and remaining calm in high stress situations. I have also had the opportunity to train and teach several different types of people, giving the insight into how to communicate with different personalities. All of these skills translate smoothly to a ministry environment.
Youth Minister, Frontline Church; Shawnee, Oklahoma — September 2012 - November 2013
I worked closely with the campus pastor to launch a new youth group for that campus. I worked intentionally in a nearby low income housing development to share the Gospel with the students and families that lived there. I was also a key member of the organization and planning of a multi campus church camp. I worked closely with the volunteers to plan and execute fun and engaging events for the students.
Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, Oklahoma — B.A. in Youth Ministry — 2012
With a minor in video production, I enjoy and have the ability to shoot, edit, and produce a variety of video styles. I enjoy thinking “big picture” and casting vision as well as developing steps and goals to work toward that vision.
I am a Christ follower and a husband. I have been married to my beautiful bride Ashleigh since August 2013. I have 4 years combined ministry experience in a variety of different cultures. As we look to the future, my wife and I are excited about the adventure God has in store for us next. My wife Ashleigh and I view youth ministry as a team effort and are passionate about sharing the Gospel with the lost and about raising up student leaders. Being from Oklahoma originally, we have enjoyed our time experiencing so many different areas and cultures, and are excited to dive into a new one yet again.
