Position Title: Full Time Youth Director
Status: Non-ordained, Full Time commitment
Direct Supervisor: Associate Pastor for Faith Formation

First Presbyterian Church Tuscaloosa is a 1,000-member Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation located in the heart of Tuscaloosa in an SEC college town. FPC Tuscaloosa is known for its commitment to service, worship, faith formation and fellowship. FPC Tuscaloosa has a vibrant youth ministry with a desire to connect, grow and serve. Our youth participate in midweek small groups, Sunday morning Sunday school, Sunday night fellowship and various other ministry opportunities planned by the Youth Leadership Team.
The Youth Director serves alongside all staff members but is directly supervised by the Associate Pastor for Faith Formation (APFF). The Youth Director is supported by the Youth Committee. The Youth Director will serve in ministry with the APFF, Campus Minister, Ukirk students, parents, interns and volunteers. The Youth Director must be available to work on Sundays (including Sunday nights) and Wednesday nights..
Developing personal relationships with youth and families and provide opportunities to guide/nurture them in the faith by fostering a welcoming community
Planning and organizing programs that enable faithful discipleship
Inspiring, engaging, equipping and supporting lay leaders
Serve as a resource for Sunday school teachers: Middle School and High School
Oversee Confirmation experience under the leadership of APFF
Plan, support and encourage worship participation and leadership by our youth as well as other intergenerational activities
Plan and execute a variety of regular engagement opportunities: prayer breakfast, after school meet-ups, lock-ins, Presbytery retreats, service opportunities and larger church involvement
Recruit, equip and support volunteers for specific tasks
Oversee Youth Leadership Team in concert with the APFF
Cultivate youth leadership in youth activities, larger church and Presbytery.
Attend Staff Meetings and Youth Committee Meetings and participate with cultural intelligence and maturity
Plan and implement summer ministry (Montreat, Missions Weekly opportunities)
Communicate and promote all Youth Ministry happenings in a timely manner with parents and youth through multiple means of communication including social media, email blasts, etc.
Oversee Youth Ministry Budget under the direction of APFF
Participate in a ministry of presence to the youth and their families by attending youth activities outside of church context such as school plays, sporting events, school performances, etc.
Celebrate and support milestones with students and their families such as becoming a driver, college acceptance, awards and honors, etc.
Strictly adhere to child protection policy at all times whether on-campus or off-campus
Perform other duties as requested
Strong personal faith with a sense of call to accompany youth on their faith journey
A passion for youth and the ability to connect with them where they are in the day to day context
A basic understanding and commitment to reformed theology
Undergraduate degree and church leadership experience preferred
Ability to work closely with staff, parents and other adult volunteers
Effective interpersonal communication skills that reflect energy and enthusiasm
Strong leadership skills that empower youth to share their voices and gifts
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Strong computer and social media skills
Ability to recruit volunteers and involve those who are not participating
Willingness to grow through continuing education opportunities
Successful background check including child protection policy required
Must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license
The ability to maintain healthy boundaries and attend to their own wellbeing
Salary Range $36,000-$40,000, negotiable beyond based on experience
