The Gathering Church, Durham, NC, is seeking a full-time Director of Youth and Communications to lead our youth ministry and communications efforts.

Job Description

Ministry Purpose: Develop and implement a middle/high school ministry whose values are consistent with the mission of the Gathering Church: to love people incredibly well as Jesus did. Oversee the use of graphics, social media, and other forms of communication to support ministries at the Gathering Church.

Qualifications and Position Requirements:
Youth
• Capable of creating and executing a nimble, long-term vision for the Gathering Church’s youth ministry program • Person of integrity with a teachable spirit who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God • Possess gifts specific to youth ministry and enjoy leading and teaching young people • Engaging teacher with strong biblical literacy who agrees with the Gathering Church’s Statement of Faith and is able to integrate biblical knowledge meaningfully within the youth community • Self-motivated leader who possesses relational skills to work with students, parents, and staff

Communications
• Capable of communicating effectively with nuance in a way that reaffirms the Gathering Church’s core values • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator or InDesign to create items for digital and print mediums including, but not limited to, postcards, brochures, posters, sermon series artwork, and event artwork • Working knowledge of Wordpress and/or Squarespace website design • Experience with online/social media communications efforts • Creative spirit, ability to adapt to changing digital landscape

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Youth
• Teach and/or coordinate the instruction of middle/high school youth Sunday School each week with a curriculum that teaches biblical truth while building trusting relationships with the middle/high school youth • Plan and attend relationship-building trips (summer camp, retreats, camping, beach, etc.) • Work with the Associate Pastor to coordinate quarterly service opportunities for middle/high school youth • Develop Sunday night connection times for middle/high school youth: i.e. meals, topical discussions, social events (bowling, Defy Gravity, Durham Bulls game, pool party, etc.) • Recruit, train, and empower volunteers with diverse gifts and personalities • Update and include parents and volunteers on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement • Integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries • Create and implement an annual youth ministry budget proposal for the church Leadership Team to review and approve • Be available for shepherding one-on-one for middle/high school youth and their families

Communications
• Support a growing infrastructure for building online community among church members and those new to the church • Keep Gathering Church Wordpress (or could be Squarespace) website events and information up to date • Create and execute a content strategy for all church communication, both print and digital • Create branding and style guidelines & create messages in keeping with them • Oversee all social media communications for Gathering the Church
