Job Title: Director of Youth Ministry

Immediate Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Job Summary and Scope:

The Director of Youth Ministry is a full-time staff member of the church. This position reports to the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee in the carrying out of duties. The Youth Director will be allowed a total of two weeks of vacation, not counting continuing education time and one day per month of sick time/personal leave. Other time off is with consultation of the Senior Pastor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Overall Responsibility and a majority of the time commitment to a ministry with the youth and an emphasis on spiritual development.

Be available to youth and their families for pastoral care needs, be an active listener and confidante of youth, provide a ministry of presence. Be an evangelist in seeking to relate youth to Christ and His church.

Keep an accurate and up-to-date roll of all youth and maintain contact with them.

Provide a program of Christian education which shall include:

Sunday School—Recruit and train teachers, serve as a resource, promote Sunday School as a vital part of youth ministry

UMYF—Coordinate and plan weekly meetings which include snack supper, gathering for announcements, programs for various ages as needed.

Recruit and train adult counselors who are enthusiastic and supportive of youth. Assist counselors and youth in scheduling and planning weekly programs, provide appropriate resources.

Coordinate snack suppers using parents and volunteers.
Lead a mid-week Youth Bible study.

Service and Mission Projects—Encourage and plan opportunities for youth to be involved in local and regional hands-on mission projects such as CASA, Summer Work Trips, etc.
Weekend Retreats and Special Trips. Provide fellowship and spiritual growth experiences through weekend retreats and special outings. Secure Transportation and adequate adult supervision at all times. Ensure that youth sign up and have proper parental, medical, and release forms signed.

Involve parents in Youth Ministry through meetings, listening, and providing information about events and encouraging parental participation.

Budget and Fundraising responsibilities include:

To develop and be responsible for the youth ministry budget, following the guidelines and procedures of the church.

To coordinate and be responsible for fundraising for special events.

Ensure good communication with youth, parents, and counselors to keep them informed about upcoming events and involvement in the church.

Publish a monthly or weekly newsletter

Follow up with inactive youth through phone and visits

Establish a communication committee to get out information

Share in the responsibilities of Confirmation Class as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
