Job Description
Job Title: Minister with Youth and Young Adults
Job Classification: Exempt — Full Time 40 hours per week
Supervised by: Senior Pastor/Head of Staff
Education and Related Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in education, Christian Education or ministry related field. Experience working with youth and/or young adults is preferable.

Theological education or experience with the PCUSA an added benefit
Strong relational skills as well as strong organizational/management skills
Prioritizes safety and healthy boundaries
Ability to build strong and healthy relationships with youth, young adults, adult leaders, and families
Collaborative spirit with an ability to work with pastors, staff, and volunteers
Technologically savvy and proficient with social media
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-starter; able to work independently
A good sense of humor
Able to incorporate music into the experience (even if candidate is not a musician)
Curiosity to learn about the community and congregation
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Work with the Youth Committee in overseeing and implementing the youth ministry program.
Oversee and implement youth group activities with youth ministry coordinators and the Minister of Music
Nurture and supervise youth ministry coordinator(s), working with them to choose and/or develop appropriate curriculum
Help recruit and support a team of youth ministry volunteers
Help plan and implement youth summer trips and weekend retreats
Help plan and implement youth-led worship
Work toward integration of youth and youth voices in many areas of Westminster’s ministry, including but not limited to worship and hands-on mission
Help oversee the youth ministry budget and annual budgeting process
Take a lead role in the Confirmation process under the direction of the ministerial staff (Senior Pastor/Head of Staff or Associate Pastor as designated)
Nurture relationships with youth and their families
Nurture support opportunities for parents of teenagers
Supported by the Communications Manager, provide regular communications via appropriate digital and print media with youth and their families
Act as a mentor, leader, and role model
Prioritize safety and healthy boundaries
With a team of young adults, begin to envision young adult ministry possibilities
Support and nurture of young adults currently attending Westminster
Support and nurture of college students connected to Westminster
Envision and experiment with ways to connect with and offer meaningful space for and with the many young adults in the Westminster neighborhood and in Heritage Hill
Serve as staff liaison to the Camp Henry Board of Directors
Participate in weekly staff meetings
Occasional participation in worship liturgy

Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Minister with Youth and Young Adults. This non-ordained position works closely with the Youth Committee and both paid and volunteer adult leaders to oversee and implement ministry with youth and young adults, inviting them into a brave space where the Holy Spirit and the practices of prayer, worship, learning, and service empower them to live in compassion, peace, justice, and hope within the church and in the world. With over 1,200 members, we are a diverse congregation drawn from all parts of the metropolitan area. We are a community of Christians committed to worshiping God, serving Christ through mission in our local community and world, and listening for the Spirit’s transforming movement in our midst.
