Mary Esther United Methodist Church

Job Title: Director of Student and Family Ministry
(Part-Time - 20 hrs. minimum)

The Director of Student & Family Ministry (DSFM) is responsible for assisting the church in planning, conducting, and evaluating programming to nurture, lead, and disciple children, from birth through college and their families, in the love and grace of Jesus Christ. They will have passion and enthusiasm for children and students, raising up the next generation to love Jesus. The DSFM will maintain an active Christian lifestyle passionately committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
While it is not required that the DSFM be a member of the United Methodist Church, it is expected that they will perform their duties with a deep respect for United Methodist doctrine and full conformity with United Methodist discipline.

Duties:
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Planning, Vision & Strategy o Develop a clearly defined vision and strategy for discipleship within the student and family ministries that reflects and connects with the overall vision and ministry of MEUMC.
o Develop and implement strategy for whole-family discipleship; working with families to equip and empower parents/families to disciple their children.
o Provide oversight and planning for all aspects of Student and Family Ministry programming, including, but not limited to:
▪ Sunday morning worship inclusion, Sunday School, and Children's Church ▪ Sunday evening Student Ministry small groups ▪ Wednesday night programming for all ministry areas ▪ Family events ▪ Summer camps ▪ Outreach events ▪ Special classes (Confirmation, etc.) ▪ Pumpkin Patch ▪ Vacation Bible School • Developing Volunteer Leaders o Build and develop leadership teams within each ministry area which consist of key committed and gifted volunteers.
o Lead, recruit, train, and develop volunteers for each ministry area.
o Understand and implement the UMC/MEUMC Safe Sanctuaries policies.
o Communicate volunteer expectations and direction of the ministry with clarity.
o Coordinate nursery volunteers and supplies.

• Administration o Curriculum selection/development for all ministry areas.
o Provide oversight to the Student & Family Ministry budget and report to the Committee on Finance.
o Help develop the budgetary needs for upcoming years.
o Check and promptly respond to emails, voicemails, and mail received.
o Ensure thorough and efficient communication with parents regarding updates, and curriculum details, via emails, flyers, and social media.
o Maintain current records and databases for volunteer contact information, applications, and background checks.

• Collaboration o Work as a team player with the rest of the ministerial and support staff. This includes making every effort to attend staff functions (e.g., staff meetings, planning sessions, etc.)
o Provide ministry reports to the Church Council.
o Provide support and leadership (when necessary) in churchwide events, even if they do not directly affect the Family Ministry.
o Share in the responsibility of ministerial duties as needed.

Education, Skills and Competencies:

Education
o A minimum of two years of undergraduate education or an Associates Degree or a minimum of two years of experience leading in youth/children’s ministry.
o The DSFM will be willing to learn and receive additional education/training to increase ministerial competence.

Relationships:
This position directly reports to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee of this church and is supervised by the Pastor of the church.

Compensation:
The Director of Student & Family Ministries will be compensated at a rate agreed upon with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee that is commensurate with the DSFM’s level of education and experience.
