Youth Ministries Coordinator, Grace United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg, MD
The position of Coordinator of Youth (grades 6-12) and Young Adult Ministry at Grace United Methodist Church starting on a mutually agreed upon date. This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $35K-$45K. The director will be responsible for leading the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) with support from church members and staff; teaching and recruiting teachers for youth Sunday school; and establishing contact with Grace UMC young adult members and maintaining/nurturing relationship between them and the church. While much of the ministry involves developing relationships and leading engaging discussions and activities with Grace UMC youth, it will also involve spending time with youth and their families in their settings (e.g. occasionally attending extracurricular activities), as well as reaching out to the youth in the community. The Youth Coordinator is expected to be present within the church facilities to coordinate with other staff and to share in some of the general ministries of the church. The immediate supervisor will be the Senior Pastor.

As the youth ministries coordinator, you will work with other church and community leaders to address the needs of youth and maximize opportunities so that all youth grow in strength and wisdom. Youth ministry shall be for, with, and by youth. Youth in the Grace UMC congregation and community will grow in faith as Christian disciples.

• The youth coordinator benefits from having one or more of these spiritual gifts: servanthood, teaching, encouragement, leadership, administration, helping, and shepherding. This leader should show evidence of passion for youth ministry, prior effective ministry leadership, and evidence of active and growing discipleship. This person demonstrates a basic knowledge of youth development. • Critical skills for this position are the ability to listen to and communicate with people of all ages and the ability to work with other adults, youth ministry leaders, and youth. Other skills needed include organization and follow-through on tasks and commitments; and the ability to share and delegate responsibility and provide the resources that volunteers need. • This leader must show genuine interest in responding to the needs and concerns of youth in the community. • Formal Christian higher education is desired. Responsibilities of the Position
The coordinator of youth ministry will:
• be attentive to the hopes, concerns, and needs of youth as integral members of the Grace UMC congregation. • determine how the congregation might serve youth and their families within the community. • identify key people in the congregation and community for collaboration and advocacy for young people’s issues. • advocate that all youth are welcome. The coordinator will raise congregational awareness of the needs and contributions of youth in the community and the world. • enforce the conference child safety policies (Safe Sanctuaries), procedures, and requirements that are to be followed by the local church. • work with others to plan and carry out ministry by, with, and for youth in varied and wide-ranging programs that include worship, study, fellowship, service opportunities, and others. • guide the work of the youth leadership team throughout the year, including planning its agendas and presiding at its meetings.
